Barge-In

Take over a call in one click

01

Server-side promotion, not reconnect

Most platforms make the supervisor leave and rejoin the room as a full participant โ€” that's a few seconds of dropouts and renegotiation. GlobeMeet flips a flag on the existing peer instead. The mediasoup router publishes the supervisor's audio producer to every consumer in the room within a single RTT.

02

When to barge in

Use barge-in for situations where the supervisor needs to be heard by the customer too โ€” escalations, compliance interventions, fraud-prevention takeovers, customer-facing apologies, VIP rescue calls.

  • Sub-100ms entry latency on most networks
  • Configurable audio chime announces the supervisor join
  • Optional video on/off โ€” barge as audio-only or full
  • Automatic audit log entry
  • One-click return to monitor mode when finished
  • Multi-supervisor barge supported (escalation chain)

Real-world example

An agent at a BFSI helpdesk gets a call about a suspicious wire transfer. They flag for help; the senior compliance officer barges in within seconds, identifies herself, takes the customer through verification, and hands the call back. Total elapsed time on the takeover handoff: under 30 seconds.

04

Operational safeguards

Barge-in requires the `barge` role claim on the supervisor's JWT. Every barge generates an audit entry that includes session ID, supervisor identity, duration, and a hash-chained signature. Optional manager approval workflows can require a second supervisor's authorisation before barging.
